Interesting.
It's always funny to think back to how good you thought the game was when it first came out. I remember Stan and I playing Jonah Lomu Rugby after a gap of about three or four years and the graphics were so blocky it was unreal. It was a PS1 game and the PS2 had been out for a good while when we played it again. Makes you wonder just how blocky the grahpics were on an Amiga and a Speccy before that despite you thinking, again, that at the time, they were the mutts nuts. p.s. I beat Stan at Jonah and "he's never playing that game again" *shocker* It was similar to the time I whooped his Penev led Bulgarian troops with a Laudrup Denmark masterclass. I've got a pic of it somewhere as proof. That was on a version of Pro Ev that was ages old too. Graphics on it were poor aswell apart from Laudrup who still looked good.

You're always looking for the next thing up though aren't you, I remember the step up from owning a Spectrum 48k to the Amiga 500. The graphics on that thing, to me at the time, were 10 times better than anything on the spectrum. They probably weren't that good.
Similarly I remember first seeing Super Mario Brothers 3 in the Fred Savage film The Wizard (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0098663/) and I couldn't believe my eyes. This game got 100% / 5 star / 10 out of 10 ratings in most of the game magazines but it's time probably passed in a matter of months. I think I'm similarly wowed these days with the whole hi def tv thing. In my mind, there's no way tv can get any better, the human eye can't detect any higher a quality in picture. I'm fully prepared to eat my words on this in a few years time when something else revolutionizes home entertainment but for now I can't imagine it ever being that much better than it is now. It all just moves so fast. Looking at that link, I realised there's a whole generation of mario and zelda games that have completely passed me by. |

OOOooohhh aye.. Stan's on Holiday.. lets post several untruths about what happened, and he'll not see it till he's back. I see your game Matheson... Jonah - Didn't happen. The man is a freak in the game, so aye.. never playing that game again. Penev.. ok.. one game Laudrup did indeed score a couple of goals that were above average.. but you fail to mention the numerous times that Penev would stroll through any midfield and defence in the world, with a superb finish. The minute the boy got the ball, you knew something special was going to happen... If only he could finish as well as Batistuta could... the boy NEVER misses. Unlike Crespo.. who only rarely misses. who in turn, is unlike Owen (who?).. who rarely is on target. who is not unlike Rooney (who?).. who rarely gets a touch... who is not unlike Lampard (fraaaaaank).. who rarely misses (his mouth)... who is unlike James/Robinson... who constantly misses... the list goes on.. |

Meant to say on Sunday, we were looking at the tour of Stamfod Bridge pictures and Crespo's name came up when Kev and Stacey were over.
Mo's comment when we started talking about him was "who?" and Kev, quick as a flash, said "exactly" 
That'll mean hee-I'm into monkey butt love... to anyone apart from Stan and Bob but it was funny. Stacey thought he was a goalie and that's why you liked him.
