I keep hearing in phone ins and reading in the papers that certain players are not Rangers or Celtic class.........?!

What sort of a comment is that?

What is Rangers class?  What makes one player be deemed by fans/press as having the desired class over another?

For example, Rangers have Lee McCulloch (personally i think he is a bit of a donkey) almost every fan you ask will say something like, he is not Rangers class, whereas someone who is equally as rotten or mediocre has no such comment made about them.  Kirk Broadfoot got the same thing said about him, but a lot of fans admire his work rate and the fact that he tries hard.  McCulloch is a Rangers fan, he does try hard, but he is just chronic (personal opinion), so what is the real difference?  What makes him be more accepted?

Is it just fickle fans?

I thought it was because players were deemed not to be good enough to play for Rangers, but look at the players who have been dubbed as not having the class to play for them and yet played elsewhere and were great.  Players like Boli (european cup winner), Capucho (Uefa Cup Winner - lazy cunt), Guivarch (world cup winner and scored 25 goals in 60 odd games after leaving rangers) and Prodan (never kicked a ball for rangers and then left and captained Romania!)

There are probably as many examples for Celtic, but I think they are all donkeys so figured I would remove my biased opinion.  Celtic fans feel free to comment on your own club

It's a bif of a daft phrase right enough.

It could only be applied if the club had a steady array of talent but as football, the world over, is about peaks and troughs, it's not really applicable.

It's strange that certain players have it angled at them while other escape. Adam gets it in the neck but Buffel was excused while being no better a player with a worse goalscoring record as a midfielder.

It possibly stems from Rangers fans, throughout history demanding a certain level of player. I don't think there's anything wrong with that but the phrase can't ever have true meaning as a football term.

Only exception to that is a certain Francis Jeffers who isn't even Queens Park class.
